Oh wow. This situation just gets better and better. :/

  2. kuromitsu April 27, 2007 at 2:56 pm #

Jesus, like a bunch of little kids. I agree that 2ch is not exactly the bunch of people whose opinion one should take particularly seriously, but this whole thing is just ridiculous.

  3. Nemo_N April 27, 2007 at 3:21 pm #

Just out of curiosity; does anyone know if anything similiar has happen before?

  4. kuromitsu April 27, 2007 at 3:42 pm #

Having read some of the comments on the official blog, now I can see why she decided to resign (the comments are very rude… that’s 2channers for you). Still, the way Gainax handled this whole issue is IMO ridiculously arrogant and unprofessional.

Part of me wants to say it’s Gainax’s own fault this happened, though, as kuromitsu said, the comments were very rude. Still, I’m sure there was a better way to handle it. I can only imagine what this is gonna do to the series, content wise (Poor guy spent 5 years working on it) and publicity wise. God knows people on 2chan is having a ball with this.

    Hahaha
    Oh wow.

    *2ch

I’ve yet to play it, but I was so glad to see Takami Akai going back to the Princess Maker series with the 5th episode. And now this… :|

Well, it was a necessary step to calm the fan community again. Otherwise the studio’s commercial power would be in danger.
I am afraid that there might not be any experimental stuff like Gurren Lagann ep. 4 from GAINAX anymore, given the audience’s intolerance towards original animation direction and art. Hopefully GAINAX will not return on its former commercial Mahoromatic-path.

Now I know why Gurren Lagen has so many threads on 2channel, lol. She shouldn’t have insulted the fanbase, but she’s just talking about them they way they talk about everyone else and each other. I guess they can’t take what they dish out. It has seemed to me that 2channelers tend to be pretty conservative in their tastes, preferring a safe rehash of old memes and styles to anything remotely unique. Making her walk the plank seems totally unfair, but I guess it was probably necessary.

Which exact part of ep 4 was experimental? I didn’t see any part that would warrant such negativity.
Besides, are these otaku so wimpy that they’ll boycott a good show just because they had their selfesteem hurt a teeny bit?

  12. omo April 27, 2007 at 9:50 pm #

There’s a saying: opinions are like butt holes, everyone’s got one. Takami Akai is just pointing it out and taking the hit for it I guess.
Seems to me that this fiasco will only reinforce the problems both she has and 2ch has.

  13. DrmChsr0 April 27, 2007 at 11:02 pm #

    Wow. Just wow.
I guess that just proves how shallow we are.
    …Yeah, I’m incensed at this.

  14. 7Th April 27, 2007 at 11:59 pm #

Hint: Takami Akai is a man, he’s been with Gainax since the Daicon days, this is a really big deal, not for Gurren as that series is finished their 18th episode now but for Gainax a whole.

  15. Tsubaki April 28, 2007 at 12:25 am #

I can only go, wow. It’s certainly breaking news.

  16. Dr. Matt April 28, 2007 at 1:55 am #

Well, that’s some crumby news; it seems like an overreaction to Gainax staffer conduct that could at worst be described as “unprofessional.” On the other hand, the situation is getting me all hot and bothered about the studio again… it’s exactly like something Classic ’90s Gainax would have gotten tangled up in ^_^

  17. DaFool April 28, 2007 at 2:01 am #

“She?” It’s Takami Akai we’re talking about, the manager who’s responsible in fanning the flames his staffmember started.

  18. Ialda April 28, 2007 at 3:10 am #

Most otakus are indeed a lot of immature, brainless and full of shits asses who dislike anything that doesn’t look like a moe bishoujo eroge, and should all die.
So I don’t really see what the scandal is.

  19. SatoshiMiwa April 28, 2007 at 11:20 am #

I’m kinda of shocked they did this, since I thought Gainax would go for their usual “Them vs the Otaku” mode of thinking they did for Eva. And ridden it to the bank for the rest of this series.
But in the end, it is a business. And Anime is way too much money now for people in the high end of a company to run their mouth at a portion of the fanbase. Even if the insult was probably mild for the 2ch/4chan audience it was waimed at…:)
(And since I care not for most Gainax stuff anyway, I find this all the more amusing…)

  20. uinreli April 28, 2007 at 1:23 pm #

    I’m sure the 4chan “contribution” didn’t help either…

  21. jpw April 28, 2007 at 4:06 pm #

    Damn 4chan!

  22. DrmChsr0 April 28, 2007 at 9:52 pm #

    4chan was defending Gainax, though.

[…] So I haven’t really been watching Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, but apparently there was some kind of scandal that occurred due to the “unique” directing of the fourth episode, including the resignation of show’s producer. […]
