Anime News: Gurren Lagann ep. 4, fiasco and aftermath

Back after the first episode aired I commented that Gainax had some tremendous balls to put up an official show blog with the comments section left open; I wondered at the time if they were so confident in their production that they weren’t worried about the reaction should it jump the shark. It seems the answer to the latter question was yes, and they are now being forced to eat the results of their overconfidence like a large mass of spastic pink furballs. I have nothing against director Kobayashi Osamu, but this was the wrong project at the wrong time for him for a whole lot of reasons…
In the most recent development in the story, it seems 4chan has begun spamming the comments section of the applicable Gurren Lagann production blog post. It’s only a matter of time before addresses are banned from the discussion (or comments are closed entirely), I’m guessing.

It’s pretty stupid to insult your fanbase when they have no qualms about flaming the hell out of you. A pretty bad move by Gainax as a whole, and I don’t think shutting of comments will help at all, just fan the flames more. Hopefully episode 5 will be awesome enough to tame the otaku heart. Still, pretty sad for a company that was founded by otaku.

Ah, but Gainax is no stranger to controvacy. As I had pointed out in another forum:
    1. Gainax is made up of Otakus.
    2. Otakus argue and swear at each other on forums and blogs all the time.
1+2= Gainax and 2ch swear at each other.
“Still, pretty sad for a company that was founded by otaku.”
Nah, it is PRECISELY because the company is founded by Otaku that they dare to take 2ch on.^_^

This is awesome really. Ten thumbs up to Gainax for this… those stinkin’ otaku ought to be a taught a lesson.
It’s really hypocritical of viewers/spectators in general who flame/criticise/insult the show staff but throw a hissy fit when ever the slighest bit of retort comes back from them.

It has become fucking EPIC. In the long time I’ve spent lurking, I’ve never seen anything quite as legendary as that one. And the “thread” belongs to neither 2ch nor 4chan. It’s Gainax’s blog.
    UBER lulz.

Being Japanese illterate, what did Gainax do that riled everyone up so bad? Is it just a change of directors. o.0” What’s fundamentally bad about that.. it’s weird, yes, but enough to warrant countless spam?
Probably there’s something I’m not getting.
However, I was amused upon visiting the blog that a lot of the English posts had Code Geass references. XDXDXD

Says sometthing about the ingrained cynicism of the anime industry these days.

Takami Akai replies that “2ch is an anus. It’s full of brainless trash that think they are superior to all.”

You know you’ve come down in the world when the producer of the Princess Maker games in laughing at you.
