Mainichi Junk: Weekend Notes

  • Agent Aika is getting a remastered release and a new OVA series, both due out in 2007
  • The official site for the Getsumen Toheiki Miina TV anime is now open, slated to air in January ’07
  • A TV anime version of Devil May Cry will be airing on WOWOW in the spring of 2007
  • The official site for TV anime Ghost Hunt is now online, with the launch date set for October 3rd

I spent yesterday working on concepts for the doujinshi I need to cobble together over the coming week in time to sell at next weekend’s Sunshine Creation. Today was spent on a Tokyo trek, stopping by Akihabara briefly before meeting friends in Ikebukuro to catch a movie (X-Men 3, entertaining though decidedly mediocre compared with 2) and talk some otaku business. The longer I spend here the more I find myself internalizing the reality of otakudom as a business, one with which it is hard to avoid a sort of morbid fascination… the “cottage industry” nature of the whole thing intersects at odd angles with broader corporate interests, and the personalities and motives of those involved are more varied and colorful than the mold colony currently growing on the mystery meat in the back of my fridge.
More on that later. I’ll try to log daily posts this week, but given the event prep insanity ahead they may be short…

Good luck with putting that doujinshi together. Don’t forget to leave time for printing and all that jazz. (Some friends did their first time out, and man, it sucked.)
What’s the topic of your doujin/kojinshi going to be?

Oh man, Aika. That reminds me of when I was 13 and renting old, crappy, dubbed VHS of anime from Blockbuster to watch with my friends. We never did finish Aika, only got to episode 4. I’ll finish it one of these days and I’ll be on the look out for that new OVA.
Also, the Mina anime best be AMAZING. I expect nothing less.

If all goes as planned I’ll have Saturday to spend dealing with the printing/collating/stapling process, though if my doujinka acquaintances are anything to go by I may find myself frantically assembling books through the night…
It’s going to be an オリジナルふたなり系エロ本, I’m afraid. There are several creators in the genre that I’ve recieved books from and I feel I should respond in kind as a matter of principle, though I don’t have much confidence in my drawing ability. We’ll see how it goes.

One of my dirty secrets is that Aika was one of the first shows I picked up on R1 DVD. A very guilty pleasure indeed. That said, I’ll definitely be watching for news of the new OVA as it develops. :3
I’m hoping they’ll give Mina the animation budget it deserves, and given its tie-in to Densha Otoko I’d say there’s a fair chance it’ll get it. It shouldn’t have trouble besting Glass no Kaikan and Himawari, in any case… Okama designs have been getting the animated shaft for long enough.

    So ‘futanari-kei’ is a genre now? :P

It’s been a genre for well over a decade, to my knowledge. :3

Well over a decade? Man. I had no idea the fascination with ‘differently equipped’ females went back that far…

Good luck, then. And save one for me, I’m always up for supporting new non-Japanese circles. ^_^
As for ‘will it be good enough’, I think they will be happy enough to receive something you made yourself. (at least, my old acquaintences seemed to be when fans gave them copies of their work)
