Preliminary Chara-Hobby Fallout

  • Midareuchi is in the middle of building his event report on the figure side of things, but a few exciting developments we can list (aside from the hotness evident in the pictures) are plans from Megahouse for a continuation of their Queen’s Blade Excellent Model CORE series with Ekidona and Yuumiru representing in January ’07. Megahouse has also announced Excellent Model figures for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni‘s Rena and Shion (Mion), coming in December of this year. Here’s hoping they have them on display today at Wanfesu as well…

rocket girls

  • Animate is reporting that Happinet has announced a new anime in production for 2007 entitled “Rocket Girls”. It’s based on a set of serial novels by Nojiri Housuke, with the premise “The first Japanese space rocket pilots are high school girls?!” The designs look cute enough for this to perk some interest here at HD HQ (does that work as an acronym?).

  • Animate is also reporting on the announcement of a new Armored Trooper VOTOMS series set to air in 2007. My first question upon hearing the news was whether this would renew the copyright on the mech designs and stop independent circles from producing VOTOMS kits… guess we’ll see.
  • Further photographic depiction of the event can be found here courtesy of Game Watch, and the industrious photographers at Hobby Japan were hard at work capturing some of the very nice cosplay in evidence there yesterday.

Off to Wonder Festival for me…

That new “Rocket Girls” series vaguely reminds me of Stratos 4. Wonder what would make it any different from it?

Unfortunately the first thing I thought of was “Twin Spica”.
